Shared Lists, Without the Signup Dance
Most shared lists make everyone create an account first. Online Lists Maker doesn’t. Create a list, copy the link, send it to anyone — they open it and start collaborating immediately, no signup on either side. Changes sync within seconds across every phone and computer with the list open.
How sharing works
- Create your list above — it exists in seconds, no account.
- Open the Share menu on your list. You’ll see two links:
- Edit link — for collaborators. They can add, check off, edit, and rearrange items.
- View-only link — for everyone else. They see live updates but can’t change anything.
- Send the right link to the right people. Family group chat gets the edit link; the wider circle gets view-only.
- Stay in control. Regenerate either link at any time (the old one stops working instantly) or revoke access entirely.
Make it work harder
- Edit for the inner circle, view-only for everyone else. Roommates planning groceries get edit access; the landlord who just wants to see the chore rota gets view-only. One list, two audiences.
- Regenerate links when the circle changes. Roommate moved out? Project ended? Regenerate the edit link — old holders lose access immediately, current collaborators get the new link.
- Watch it update live. Keep the list open during the event, the move, the shop — checkmarks and new items appear within seconds, no refresh needed.
- Two people editing the same item? The latest change wins, and you’ll see a notice with the option to restore your text. Nothing disappears silently.
Frequently asked questions
Do the people I share with need an Online Lists Maker account?
No — there are no accounts at all. Anyone with the link opens the list directly.
What’s the difference between the edit link and the view-only link?
The edit link grants full editing rights on that list; the view-only link is read-only. Both are unguessable, and you can regenerate or revoke either one at any time from the Share menu.
Can I stop sharing a list?
Yes. Revoke a link to cut off everyone holding it, or regenerate it to issue a fresh link to current collaborators. Deleting the list (from the menu with the edit link) removes it for everyone.
How many people can collaborate on one list?
There’s no per-list collaborator cap — families, teams, and event crews all work from the same link.
Is a shared list private?
It’s as private as its links. Lists are never indexed by search engines and never appear in sitemaps — but anyone holding a link can open it, and anyone with the edit link can re-share it. Treat the edit link like a key: share it deliberately.
What happens if someone loses the link?
Anyone who still has the list open can re-copy the link from the Share menu. If all links are lost and the list isn’t in anyone’s “Your Lists” panel, it can’t be recovered — which is exactly why the links are unguessable.
